Joanne Ruth
Rinehart
April 6, 2026
MacDonald Funeral Home
3:00 - 5:00 pm (Eastern time)
Joanne Ruth (Finnie) Rinehart of Marshfield passed away on April 6, 2026 at Benchmark Assisted Living in Hanover. Beloved wife of John C. Rinehart, she leaves a son, Steven Rinehart and his wife Catarina, a daughter, Michelle Rinehart, grandchildren Alexa, Matthew, Amber and her husband Derek, Kayden, Sage, and two great-grandchildren Thomas and Jasmine. She also leaves her siblings James Finnie and his wife Denise, Patricia Rodgers and her husband Kevin, Pamela Patterson and her husband Richard, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Born at home in Scituate on April 18, 1951, that day typified the rest of her life. She was always in a hurry. A master at multitasking.
Growing up on a cul-de-sac of only 8 homes, she met John early in life, “his home was on the same cul-de-sac” and informing his mother when she was 10 years old that she was going to marry him. It took her another seven years to convince him it was “his” idea! He finally proposed while they were walking on Duxbury Beach the evening of May 11, 1968. They were married three years later, on May 8, 1971 and had 55 great years together.
Joanne and John traveled extensively, Occasionally with friends and other times just the two of them. The visited all the popular Caribbean Islands as well as Mexico, Canada, and all of the eastern United States from Maine to Florida. They traveled to Hawaii multiple times to visit their many friends there or just relax. John had served in the Air Force in Hawaii for two years after serving in Vietnam.
Joanne had many hobbies including gardening, sewing and collecting various bric-a-brac and antiques, but her main love was designing and building small-scale doll houses as well as furniture and accessories. In the spring and summer, she would work tirelessly in her flower gardens and shrubs. But when they were “dressed and happy” she would then get utterly lost in her miniatures. She was involved in multiple clubs, including Tiny Treasures Society, and was a vested member of NAME the “National
Association of Miniature Enthusiasts.” She would often travel around the country to attend regional shows and events sponsored by NAME.
Above all else Joanne loved her family! When the kids were growing up, she could be a tough taskmaster, but in the end she, (with some help from John) raised two wonderful, resourceful, independent successful individuals whom she (and John) were profoundly proud of. Growing up, our house was always a gathering place for their friends. She was like a second mom to most.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Burial will be on Monday, April 20, 2026 in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
A shout out to Benchmark Senior Living in Hanover, particularly the Memory Care Unit personnel, working in conjunction with Beacon Hospice personnel, made a very difficult situation manageable for Joanne and our family in her final months with her battle with Dementia. Their dedication and professionalism were a godsend to us all.
