John A Murphy, loving Papa and husband of the late Ann T Murphy, was called home on April 25, 2023, at the age of 93. John was predeceased by his brothers Donald and James (Gerard) Murphy and sister Audrey Figerido-Parker. John is survived by his three daughters: Karen Kerry and husband John of Plymouth, MA, Deborah Poirier and husband Michael of Covington, WA and Brenda Gibbons and husband Lawrence Gibbons of Kingston, MA; Seven grandchildren: Patrick, Devin, Ashley Ann, Justin, Michael, Joseph and Colleen 15 great grandchildren, his brother Michael of Marshfield and sister Mary LaPlume of Weymouth, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Quincy, he was the son of the late James and Irene Murphy. John was a graduate of Weymouth High School, Bentley College and attended Suffolk University. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany between 1951 and 1954. He held accounting positions with Plymouth Cordage Industries and South Shore Hospital before joining Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, where he retired after 25 years of service.
Before moving to Kingston with his daughter, John raised his family in Marshfield, where he made many friends and memories. John was an avid reader, a faithful servant and shared his love of music as a 25 year member of the South Shore Men of Harmony and St. Ann by the Sea choir. He is best remembered for his quiet, gentle manner.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Parish Church, 272 Main Street in Kingston. John will be laid to rest in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
