Anderson, John R., of Marshfield, passed away on July 14, 2016 at the age of 88. John was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (Murphy) Anderson and dear father of Carol Anderson Flanagan and her husband Jerry of Grafton and Nancy Anderson Ahern and her husband John of Marshfield. John leaves his grandchildren John, Kaitlin and Kellianne as well as his nieces and nephews.

John was born in Weymouth to the late Robert and Jean (Lowe) Anderson, both of whom had emigrated from Scotland. He was a proud Veteran of the US Navy. John was a graduate of the Mass Maritime Academy and worked as a Consulting Engineer for many clients including the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority MWRA.

John enjoyed hiking, ocean swimming and golf. He was a member of the Marshfield Country Club for over 25 years and served as its membership chairperson.

As a 55 year resident of Marshfield John served as its Water Commissioner for many years and helped to establish hundreds of acres of conservation land to preserve clean drinking water for the growing town.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street, Marshfield. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Couch Cemetery.
