Obituary

John Richard Arapoff, 89, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on June 1, 1935, in Beverly, MA, to the late Alexis and Catherene Arapoff.  John was the cherished husband of the Late Rita Arapoff (Crossman) and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage before his passing just a six weeks after her.  John and Rita moved to Marshfield, MA in 1964, after a brief period in Denver, CO, and spent the next 6 decades establishing themselves as a fixture in the local community.

John graduated from Thayer Academy in 1954 and later served in the Marine Reserves. He was not only a talented artist but also an accomplished art restorer, having studied at the prestigious Vesper George school of art in Boston. Throughout his art career, John was a member of numerous art associations such as the South Shore Arts Center, North River Art Society, and the Duxbury Art Association. He was also a member of organizations like the American Institute for Conservation, New England Conservation Association, and the National Historical Trust. His exceptional artwork and restorations can be found online at http://www.johnarapoffimages.com/ as well as in many private and public collections across the country.  In addition to his art, John was a successful executive in the printing business spending nearly 30 years with South Shore Printing, formerly located in North Scituate, MA.

Apart from his love for art, John had numerous other interests. He and Rita enjoyed nature walks, was a self-proclaimed handy man, and cared for the various fruit trees and blueberry bushes on their property. An avid card player, John and Rita played various card games every evening, both being excellent players.  Moreover, John found immense pleasure in outdoor pursuits such as flying model airplanes, playing tennis, and participating in any racket sport. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends and continued to play until just last year, demonstrating his enduring passion for the game.

John is survived by his five loving sons: Steven (Patti), Anton (Maryellen), Christopher (Kristine), Jason (Jennifer), and Alexis (Susan). He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren Sheri, Shauna, Ashley, Lauren, Julia, Nathan, Anna, and Alexa, as well as his great-grandchildren Nate, Anna, and Abigail.
