John F. Coffey, 94, passed away on September 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 24, 1931, in Waltham, Massachusetts, John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
John married the love of his life Patricia in 1955. They shared almost 70 years together, raising 4 children, Stephen, Diane, Maryann (pre-deceased) and Jennifer; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
John had a great love of the ocean and sailing which he passed on to his family and friends. Over the years he had many boats which he kept at Kingman Marina in Pocasset on Cape Cod where he spent many wonderful years with his family sailing the Cape and the Islands. Some of his favorite places to sail to were Cuttyhunk Island and Hadley's Harbor.
John worked as a sheet metal worker in the testing and balancing of HVAC systems in large buildings throughout the Boston area. Later in his career he started and ran his own successful company for many years.
John will be remembered for his kindness, patience and great love for his family. John had many interests and hobbies, besides sailing he loved to travel, enjoyed gardening, cooking, painting, reading and working with his hands sewing and mending sails and sail covers for his boats. He also was skilled at repairing stuffed animals for his grandchildren. John also built things such as a small 20' boat he built out of aluminum, he built an enclosed sunroom to one of his houses and built a beautiful grandfather clock. He also could also trouble shoot and fix almost anything enjoying all the while.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street in Duxbury. All are welcome to attend.
