John L. Doran, "Jack" passed away suddenly, at peace on August 5 at the age of 86, after a brief illness. He now joins his beloved wife, Elaine, in eternal rest.

A proud Navy veteran, he served his country with honor for 20 years active and 10 years as a reservist, completing his final tour as Chief Boatswain's Mate aboard the historic USS Constitution.

Jack is survived by his three loving children: John P. Doran and his wife Kim of the Netherlands, Alice LeBlanc of Scituate; and Bridget Damon and her husband Keith of Scituate. He was a devoted and proud grandfather to Nicole and her husband Robin Loojen, and Brittany Eddy, all of the Netherlands, PJ LeBlanc and his wife Vanessa of Long Island City, New York, Jason LeBlanc of Scituate, Casey Roache and her husband Gregory of Marshfield, and Anthony Snell of Scituate.

After his service in the Navy, Jack worked as a fireman and a policeman in East Millinocket, Maine. He then moved back to Scituate and worked for the water department and later took a job as a ship builder in the Quincy shipyard. He left the Quincy shipyard and traveled to Florida for fishing, bought a fishing boat and became part of the fishing industry before eventually making his way to Larchmont, New York, where he served as Harbormaster until his retirement. Jack also drove a hearse for many years, a job he truly enjoyed.

Though he spent winters in St. Petersburg, Florida, Jack always considered Scituate his true home. He will be remembered for his deep love for his family, his service to his country, and his unwavering pride in both.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 11, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m, at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street, Marshfield. Jack will be laid to rest on Tuesday, August 12 at 11:00 a.m. in the Plainville Cemetery, Parish Pathe, in Marshfield.
