John F. Sullivan passed away at home peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 2, 2018 at the age of 81.
John is survived by his wife, Brenda M Sullivan of Marshfield; his daughters Kathleen Sullivan of Marshfield, Tricia (Sullivan) and Joseph Harnan of Marshfield, Laurel (Sullivan) and Paul Williams of Marshfield; his four grandchildren: Andrew, Kathryn, Stephen and Jack; his sisters Laureen (Sullivan) and Paul Waters of Marshfield and Maryann (Sullivan) and Allen Woods of Park City, UT; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
John was born on January 15, 1937 in Milton, MA, to Lawrence and Lucy Sullivan. John was a graduate of Marshfield High School in 1955, when there were only 30 students in the graduating class. He proudly earned a football scholarship to Boston College graduating with a degree in Science and Economics and then joined the US Navy. Upon discharge, John enrolled in Bridgewater State University to earn his Master's Degree in Education and then returned to Boston College to begin his work towards his CAGS.
John began his professional career as a Math teacher at North Junior High in Brockton, Mass, while coaching baseball and football at Cardinal Spellman Highschool in Brockton. He came to Marshfield in 1971 as Assistant Principal at Martinson Middle School. He retired in 1997 as Principal of the school. Upon retirement, John worked at the Green Harbor Golf Course, where he happily remained for 19 years, mowing lawns, changing cups, golfing and laughing with the guys.
John married Brenda Canal on August 21, 1965. They made their home in John's childhood home on Bay Avenue on Green Harbor Beach where they raised their three girls and spent many happy years with ocean breezes and sandy feet.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 40 Canal Street, Marshfield. Burial in Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury will be at a later date.
