John G. Galvin, Jr., of Sandwich, formerly of Marshfield, passed away on May 7, 2018 at the age of 79. Beloved husband of 43 years to the late Jeane M. (LeBlanc) Galvin; dear father of Patricia (Galvin) Dwyer and her husband James of Pembroke, Michael Galvin of Braintree, Timothy Galvin and his wife Robin of Groveland, Daniel Galvin and his wife Lisbeth of Marshfield, and Kathleen (Galvin) Deeley of Halifax. John is predeceased by his parents, John and Catherine Galvin, and two sisters, Judith and Kathleen Galvin, but leaves a brother, Paul Galvin of Florida. He was the cherished grandfather of Molly, Shannon and Marie Dwyer of Pembroke, Jonathan and Emily Deeley of Halifax, Meghan and Brad Galvin of Marshfield, and Jessica Galvin of Groveland.
John was born and raised in Dorchester Lower Mills and attended B.C. High for several years. He graduated from Hyde Park High School, where he played football, and was also an Alter Server for St. Gregory's Parish of Dorchester for many years. John was proud of both his service in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was stationed on Paris Island, and his Irish Heritage. He was an avid Boston sports fan, with the Boston Bruins being his all-time favorite team, and was named Coach of the Year as a coach for many years for Marshfield youth baseball and hockey teams. John had a love of antique cars and the beach and had a knack for always making people smile and laugh. He was most proud of his family, and his 8 grandchildren were the apples of his eyes.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass to be held at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ann's by the Sea Church, 591 Ocean Street, Marshfield. Burial will be in the Couch Cemetery.
