Obituary

John Patrick Hollywood, a beloved and cherished husband, father, brother, uncle and friend passed away in Milton, MA on December 23, 2022.

John is survived by his wife Joanna, his daughters Maeve and Isla of Duxbury, MA, his mother Rosemary, his siblings Regina, Rosemary, Eileen and Jim as well as his nephews John, Brian, Thomas and Matthew, and his nieces Katie, Ally and Anna as well as his extended family.

John was born to James and Rosemary Hollywood in Mineola, NY on May 6, 1975. He grew up in Floral Park, Queens, NY. John graduated from Archbishop Molloy High School in 1993 before attending Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. After graduating John began his career as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer for the Department of Homeland Security, following in the footsteps of his late father, a NYPD Sargent. John honorably protected & served his country for over 27 years.

John met his wife Joanna in February of 2008 and they were married in York, ME on November 20, 2009. They welcomed their daughter Maeve McEvoy Hollywood in 2010 and their daughter Isla Grace Hollywood in 2013.  John was a truly handsome, humble and virtuous man who treasured his family more than anything in the world. He was admired for being the most compassionate, selfless and gracious husband and father.

John had a tremendous love of baseball & football and was a loyal New York Mets and New York Giants fan. He always shared his love and vast knowledge of sports, music, history and the world with his wife and daughters. He had an adoration for maps, a deep respect for his Irish heritage and a fondness for Irish whiskey. He was witty and clever and a compelling storyteller. He loved to share memories of his grandparents and most especially his father- his fondest memory being their trip to Game 6 of the 1986 World Series when he was 10 years old.

John protected and loved his three girls with every ounce of his being and will continue to from above. He fought a courageous battle with cancer with such stunning strength and bravery. Although their hearts are heavy and broken, his wife and daughters will forever honor his beautiful legacy every day of their lives.

All are welcome to pay tribute to John on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Visiting hours will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. and will include a Prayer and Remembrance Service at 4:30 p.m.

Remembrances
Death is nothing at all:
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way you always used to.
Laugh as we have always laughed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be the household word it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was:
There is absolutely unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of your mind
just because I am out of your sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
Somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well, nothing is past; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
only better, infinitely happier, and forever we will
all be one in Christ.
Love doesn't die, people do.
So that when all that's left of me is love.
Give me away as best you can.
I'll see you at home, where I'll be waiting.
