John Joseph Murphy, 88, of Ocean Bluffs, Marshfield, MA passed away peacefully on March 26th with his family at his side, after a multi-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born in Brookline on February 25, 1933 to Thomas Murphy and Catherine McHugh. John graduated from Brookline High School in 1950 and immediately enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served for four years on the naval destroyer, the USS Healy.
John had a successful and accomplished business career with Boston Edison for 34 years. Starting as a janitor with the company, his hard and dedicated work advanced him to the level of Vice President. While working full time for Edison, John simultaneously attended night school at Northeastern University, earning a Batchelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Recognizing his intelligence and work ethic, Boston Edison sponsored John to attend the Executive Development Program at the Harvard Business School which he completed very successfully.
John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marie (McGarrell) Murphy of Mission Hill and Ocean Bluffs, son Brian Murphy and his wife, Susan (Devine) Murphy of West Falmouth and his daughter, Diane Murphy of Scituate. In addition, John leaves behind two granddaughters, Danielle Fabbricatore of Chicago, IL and her husband, Joseph Lesiak and Kathryn (Murphy) Gordon of Marshfield and her husband, Corey Gordon. John is also survived by his younger brother, James Michael Murphy of Norwood, but is predeceased by siblings Tommy Murphy, Helen Taggart and Theresa Souza.
John touched countless lives in a highly positive way and will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, his patriotism, his tireless energy and his devotion to his family.
Visitation on Monday, April 5, 2021 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield, will be followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Ann by the Sea Parish Church, 591 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Interment will be private.
