Kelly, John J., of Marshfield, passed away on August 23, 2017 at the age of 86. Beloved husband of 58 years to the late Julia J. (Daly) Kelly; dear father of Michael Kelly and his wife Jean of Hanson, Josephine Gillis and her husband Raymond of Marshfield, Eileen Bonney and her husband Christopher of Marshfield, John J. Kelly, Jr. of Marshfield, Jeremiah Kelly and Eugene Kelly, both of Dedham; grandfather of Joseph and Jill Kelly, Bridget and Michael Gillis, and Megan Bonney; dear brother of Leo Kelly of Medford and the late Peter Kelly, Mary Polcari, and Ann Mosher.

John was raised in Medford and graduated from Medford High School.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War. After his service in the Navy, John attended St. Anselm College and graduated with a Bachelors Degree. After college, John owned his own gas station and sold it when he took a position with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  He retired as Director for the Department of Welfare after 26 years with the Commonwealth. John was an active member of the VFW and served as a Junior Commander.

John moved his family from Malden to Marshfield in 1973.  He enjoyed boating, the beach, cooking, and holidays with the family. He loved singing to his Irish music. Above all, John's true love was his home and family.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017 for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. Christine's Church, 1295 Main Street, Marshfield. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
