McDonough, John Ignatius. 81 of Plymouth September 3, 2015. Loving father of Jeanne Marie McDonough-Jarvis and her husband William, Laura M. Higgins and her husband William, Cheryl Anne Mechan and her husband Steven and Pamela J. McGrath and the late Sean, all of Marshfield. Grandfather of Kaileigh, Brianna and Liam Jarvis, Joseph and Eric Higgins, Paige and Danielle Mechan and Cassandra and Holly McGrath. Former spouse of Jeanne K. (Klein) McDonough. Brother of the late, Hubert McDonough, Paul McDonough, Francis McDonough, Fr. Leo McDonough, Sister Marion Leo and Agnes Hoar.
John (Jack/Jake) was born in South Boston. He grew up in Dorchester in St Margaret Parish. As a child, John was an altar boy and sang in the choir. John was a graduate of English High School and went on to join the U.S. Army. While in the Army, John served as a company clerk and was stationed in Germany. He was a Korean War Veteran. Upon his return to the U.S., John joined Holy Name Society and served as president during the 60's. He also attended Northeastern University and work for Shawmut Bank, the Commonwealth Bank and later as a trolley operator for the MBTA. John married Jeanne (Klein) in 1960 and had four daughters.
Throughout his life, John was an avid athlete. He loved playing basketball and softball, as well as hockey. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years, where he enjoyed bowling with his fellow knights. The K of C couples went on many vacations together, where John enjoyed his puns, often playing a prank or two on his unsuspecting friends.
Visiting hours will be held in the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Rte. 139 in Marshfield on Friday, September 11, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral from the funeral home on Saturday, September 12, at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St Christine's Church 1295 Main St Marshfield at 10:00 am. Interment will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery Bourne, MA on Monday at 11:30 am.
