On Friday, January 25, 2019 John Arthur Medlin, Sr, 87, passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. Loving husband to his wife of 64 years, Mary Medlin (Happnie), Devoted Father of John A Medlin Jr (Linda) of Marshfield, Peggy Marshall (Jeff) of Kingston, Michael Medlin (Shirley) of NH, Teresa Ann (deceased), Kathy Medlin-McSorley (Walter) of Kingston, and Stephen Medlin (Lisa) of Kingston. Proud grandfather to John Medlin III (Courtney), Catherine Conton, Julie Conton, Jamie-Lynn Medlin, Kelley Marshall, Garry Marshall (Kayla), Katelyn Medlin, Stephen Medlin Jr., Christopher Medlin, Samantha Medlin, and Thomas McSorley. Great grandfather to Gracie Medlin, John Medlin IV, Jackson Medlin and Skarlett Marshall. Dear brother to Ed Medlin (Squirt) of Yreka CA. and the late Roland Henry, James Hollingsworth, and Angus Gilbert Medlin. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
John was born in Philadelphia, PA to Roland and Lillian Medlin. He was raised in Maxton, NC and served in the United States Air Force for 22 years. He received many commendations and citations for acts of heroism, bravery and good conduct in addition to The Purple Heart, Bronze Star with V, UN Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal.
John retired in 1991 from GTE Sylvania and then continued to work with his son, John Jr., at Rockland Athletics Supply in Rockland. His happiest moments were with his family, sitting in the sun, and arguing about who the best looking Medlin was. His southern charm captured us all. Everyone who met him instantly loved him. His wife Mary was the social butterfly while he was the quiet strong gentle-man in any room. He will be sorely missed.
