John Thomas Regan, 81, passed away at his home in Marshfield Wednesday morning April 23, 2025. John had been in declining health for several years and passed peacefully in his sleep due to congestive heart failure and end-stage renal disease. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Blanid (Bunny) F. Regan (Cullen) who died in April 2019. He leaves three children: Sean M. Regan of East Quogue, NY, Barbara J. Morisseau (Jon), and Timothy J. Regan (Rachel), both of Marshfield. He was the loving grandfather of 7 - Shane, Connor, Niall, Jack, Finn, Liam, and Regan.
John was born and raised in Somerville, Massachusetts, along with his late sister Ellen Willand, his late brother Robert Regan, his brother Timothy Regan and his brother Paul Regan. He was a 1961 graduate of Matignon High School where he was a 3-sport star athlete. He went on to attend Boston College where he majored in Economics and played basketball on the freshman team under coach Bob Cousy. John and Bunny met at Boston College and were married at St. Ignatius Church in Chestnut Hill after they graduated in 1965. John then entered Navy Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. He was commissioned an Ensign in the US Navy in 1966, eventually rising to the rank of Lieutenant before leaving the service in 1969. John was extremely proud of his military service and made many life-long friends he remained in touch with over the years.
After the Navy John was hired by the Polaroid Corporation where he started as a production manager in their camera division. He attended graduate school at Babson College earning his MBA in 1972. John's career at Polaroid spanned over 33 years working in several locations in and around Boston. He rose to become a senior executive at Polaroid retiring as their Financial Controller. John and Bunny first lived in Norwell, MA before settling permanently in Marshfield, MA in 1975. John led a very active life in Marshfield where he was involved in coaching youth sports and ultimately served as president of the Marshfield High Gridiron Club while his sons played football at MHS. He was an avid runner, reader, and loved working in his garden. He enjoyed spending time with his extensive family and his many friends. John and Bunny hosted legendary parties at their house on Captain Luther Little Way. He was close to other Matignon and Boston College alumni and participated in every reunion. Later in life he was a doting grandfather who loved to attend his seven grandchildren's sporting events, school activities, and concerts.
John traveled the world with Bunny to many locales, including Ireland, Scotland, Bermuda, Aruba, Hawaii, and throughout continental Europe. He was an active and involved father and grandfather and could not have been more proud of their accomplishments and his legacy. These last five years without his loving wife Bunny were hard on him and it is comforting that they will be reunited. John was stern, strong, funny, intelligent, loyal, devoted to and extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. He lived a full and rewarding life and will be deeply missed. Raise a glass to this beautiful Irish son. "Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace."
