Sullivan, John J. "Sully", of Carver, passed away on March 7, 2019 surrounded by his loving family, following a period of failing health. Beloved husband of 20 years to Darleen (Mayhew) Sullivan and father of Bryon and his wife Nicole of Maine, Gina of Carver, and Elena Reed and her husband Corey of Maine. Loving grandfather of Vincent, Vito, and Jillian, and dear brother of Thomas, Daniel, Mary, and Eileen. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Born in Boston and raised for a time in Charlestown, Sully's family moved to Rockland where he spent most of his childhood. Upon graduating from Rockland High, and with the country at war, he enlisted in the Army and served with valor in Vietnam with the U.S. Army Special Forces, 173rd Airborne Brigade. As brave and loyal a man and soldier as has ever served, Sully was a recipient of both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Upon discharge from the Army, Sully continued to serve his country in the Marine Reserves and as a Police Officer, and was one of the founding members of the Police Athletic League in the Town of Marshfield. He was a golden gloves boxer and expert in martial-arts form Karate who mentored countless youth through the years with his program in Marshfield and as a volunteer trainer with the Hanover Police Boys Club. Sully had a heart of gold and a will of steel. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Wednesday, March 13 at 10:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Church, 40 Canal Street, Marshfield. Burial with full Military Honors will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
