Jon Lewis Chandler passed away on January 12, 2024 at the age of 88. He was the beloved husband of Eunice (Costello) Chandler; loving father of Scott Ernest Chandler, his sons Zachary Alden, Jason Jon and their mother Kathryn Rebecca "Becki"; Andrew Jon Chandler and his wife Sarah Ann, and their daughter Natalie Nicole, all of Marshfield. Dear brother of Jean Elizabeth (Chandler) Woodbury of Stuart, FL and the late Ernest "Ernie" Alden Chandler, Jr. Son of the late Ernest A. and Elizabeth (Sinnott) Chandler, he also leaves many nieces and nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and friends.
Jon graduated from Marshfield High School, Class of 1953. He played sousaphone during high school and played in All State and New England Festivals. He graduated from General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan and returned home to work at his uncle Charles Sinnott's garage, then later went to work for Kendrick Williams at Precision Electronics while earning his electrical engineering degree evenings at Northeastern University. Several years later Ken, Jon and Robert Bonney formed a partnership of Precision Electronics Corporation. PTS Computer Services and FORMCO were later added to the Corporation. Twenty years ago, when his partners were ready to retire, Jon and Eunice downsized and purchased the business. They enjoyed working together side by side for twenty years.
Church was very important to Jon. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Marshfield and sang in the choir for over sixty years. Jon served on many committees in the Church. He was on the Music committee for years, even directing the choir for a short time. He served as a Deacon and as chairman, stewardship, handicrafters and helped with the organ and carillon renovations. He met his future wife Eunice through singing together in the choir. After dating four years, they married on November 3, 1962 and settled into a cottage on Mayflower Road. Over the years they renovated and expanded their home with its beautiful ocean view.
Jon enjoyed following his boys athletic and musical activities. Especially fun were the hikes and canoe trips in New Hampshire and Maine with their boy scout troop. Labor Day weekends were often spent at sister Jean's to help close their resort on Newfound Lake in Bristol NH, where he had worked summers as a teenager. As the boys grew, he followed his passion for travel and bought his first RV (the 'Honey'). We took many family trips to Canada and throughout New England. In 1982 we took a long ride to many National Parks throughout the USA. Taking the Northern route to Seattle to see friends, south to San Diego for family and back home seeing as many parks as possible along the way; We traveled in RVs over 40 years with good friends Bob and Helen Titus - many wonderful trips to specific destinations or chasing covered bridges or lighthouses…more fun never knowing where we were going, side trips were exciting! Another big love was square dancing, mainly with the Hobomock Hoedowners where he was an Officer for many years and made many lifelong friendships. He enjoyed square dance weekends, domino nights, and canoeing with the HoHo Paddlers on local rivers and ponds.
With the arrival of grandchildren Zachary Alden Chandler and Jason Jon Chandler, he enjoyed many happy years following their baseball, basketball, football, cross country and track practices, games and meets. He also enjoyed granddaughter Natalie Nicole Chandler's dance recitals and music concerts as she played the cello.
