Joseph G. "Jerry" Welch, III, passed away on August 10, 2017 at the age of 57. Gerry is the cherished son of Lois (McGuire) and the late Joseph G. Welch, Jr. Beloved husband of Laura L. Stangel-Welch and step-father of Neil Stangel of South Boston. Dear brother of Helen Welch of Marshfield, Brenda Ingham and her husband Rick of Marshfield, Thomas Welch and his wife Jayme of Marshfield, Regina Todd and her husband Michael of PA, and Maureen Enwright and her husband Steven of Kingston. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jerry was born in Quincy, he grew up in Marshfield and graduated from Marshfield High School in 1978. He then graduated from New Hampton Prep in 1979 and attended Boston College on a full hockey scholarship. Jerry joined the Boston Fire Department in 1989. This was truly a job he was born to do, he was so proud to be a Firefighter and loved his fellow firefighters as brothers. Jerry enjoyed going to Haddad's and relaxing in his reserved seat with a cold Budweiser, reading the newspaper and spending time with his loving wife Laura and his many friends. Jerry touched many people's lives in his professional career and in his personal life. He will be missed by many who loved him.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in St. Christine's Church, 1295 Main Street, Marshfield. Burial will be in the Couch Cemetery.
