Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Thompson Lassiter of Marshfield passed away peacefully on April 8 at Life Care Center in Plymouth at the age of 80. Beloved husband of the late Martine Jeanne Lassiter (Daridan). Beloved son of Samuel Benjamin and Martha Elizabeth Lassiter. Loving father of Veronique Brigitte McCloskey and her husband Michael of Bristol, RI and Caroline Gabrielle Lassiter and her husband David Rankin of Auckland, New Zealand. Cherished grandfather "Pops" of Michael McCloskey and his wife Eden and Joseph McCloskey. Half-brother of the late sisters Frances McArthur Shaffer and Helen McArthur Bickel. Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Joe was born in Washington, DC on May 14, 1934 and attended the University of Maryland and the University of Texas. He enlisted in the US Army and served in France and was honorably discharged. He returned to the US and worked in Washington, DC. He moved to Massachusetts with his family in 1972. Joe worked in the liquor and wine industry and was the regional sales manager for Seagrams Classics in Westwood, Massachusetts until his retirement in 1992 after more than 25 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and painting. He was an avid reader and very knowledgeable about history and cooking. Joe loved good food and great wine. He always looked at life as the glass half full. Joe also enjoyed fishing and hiking. Most of all he enjoyed company of family and friends. Joe also loved feeding and taking care of any and all animals. He was an honorary member of the Marshfield Yacht Club. His family and friends will remember his charm, sense of humor and generosity. Family and friends will honor and remember Joe's life by gathering for calling hours on Saturday, April 18 from 1 to 3 p.m in the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Rte. 139 in Marshfield
