Joseph O'Malley, aged 85 passed away peacefully on March 15, 2023. His family was by his side. He was born on February 24, 1938, to Sarah (nee Corbett) and Thaddeus "Thady" O'Malley in Doughmakeone, County Mayo, Ireland. Joe immigrated to Boston in his late teens. He married his wife Mary O'Malley (nee Doherty) on May 5, 1962. He raised his family in Abington Massachusetts and was a member of St. Bridget's Parish. He has been a resident of Marshfield and a member of Saint Ann by the Sea Parish for the past 20 years.
Joe worked for Brockton Public Market and Shaw's Supermarkets for over 40 years, a valued member of management and a steady mentor to his young employees. Joe was devoted to his son Joe, daughter-in-law Rose and grandsons Joseph and Ian. He found happiness in hard work and time spent with his loved ones and friends. He greatly enjoyed family gatherings with his siblings, nieces, and nephews. Joe was an avid gardener, he belonged to local golf, horseshoe, and dart clubs for many years and was a sought-after partner. He continued to play golf into his early eighties. Joe was a steady, pragmatic, wise man with an Irish brogue and a dry sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Christine Parish Church, 1295 Main Street (Rte. 3A) in Marshfield. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester.
