Obituary

Joseph E. Zdankowski, Sr., originally from Dorchester, Joe moved to North Quincy to raise his family with his beloved wife Mary. They retired to Marshfield where he passed away peacefully on June 12, 2023 at the age of 97 with family by his side, on the same date as the 10th anniversary of Mary's passing. He will be remembered for serving his country in WWII in the Army Air Corp, 13th Air Force, 31st Bombardment Squadron as a tailgunner on a B-24 bomber named Old Black Magic.

Joseph worked as a mold maker at Special Tool alongside his father Henry and his brother Steve from 1946 to 1967 where he met his wife/sweetheart Mary of 58 years. He was hired by Gillette as a mold maker and retired in 1987 as Manager of Research and Development of the Model Shop.

Joseph now joins his beloved Mary and his brothers and sisters Helen, Edith, Mary, Stephen, Florence and Henry. He is survived by his five children Joseph Jr., Julie and husband Eric, Jean, Janet and husband Jeff, and Jo-Ann as well as his 10 grandchildren Erin, Kristen, Scott, Danielle, Hunter, Sarah, Zachary, Matthew, Lara, and Spencer and great grandchildren Dominic, Ana, Brady, and Jojo.

Joe enjoyed working in his yard, chopping trees bushes, and keeping the house grounds in order. He was always moving doing something around the house up to his last days. Joe and Mary traveled in retirement to Spain, but they always enjoyed visiting their children where they worked, from the Great Lakes to Arizona to Vermont to the Vineyard and everywhere in between. He enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren when he and Mary lived in Marshfield.

Visiting hours will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield, and will conclude at 12:30 p.m. with a funeral procession to the Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree for a Graveside Service.
