With immense love, we celebrate the life of Joshua "Josh" Thomas Eaton.
Josh was born in Plymouth on November 14, 1997. Josh had a late diagnosis of Arginase 1 Deficiency, a rare urea cycle disorder at the age of three. He was followed by a specialized medical team at Boston Children's Hospital throughout his life. After Josh's diagnosis, his family became immersed in trying to understand, adapt, and advocate for the constant ever changing care of Josh's unique needs. From the early years of Josh living with Arginase 1 Deficiency with limited resources, his family became pioneers while navigating through uncharted territory in the medical world. As Josh progressed, his condition became medically complex. Through the advancement of specialized resources tailored to treat Josh's Arginase 1 Deficiency, he was able to thrive and overcome obstacles and the impossible became possible.
Shortly after his diagnosis, Josh went on a pilgrimage with his mother and grandmother to Lourdes, France. Later in life, Josh participated in studies about his rare disease, and it was written about in medical journals. Josh's case was also presented at medical conferences to healthcare professionals and medical students alike, all over the world. He participated in disease awareness videos where his story was shared on the local news, and most importantly with the FDA, as he was advocating in hopes of bringing treatments to others who are living with Arginase 1 Deficiency. Josh's life was a testament to the power of perseverance, the strength of family and community, and the beauty of a heart that knew no limits.
Josh attended the Marshfield Public School District and the Marshfield P.O.S.T. (Postgraduate Opportunities for Successful Transitions) Program where he developed essential life and transitional skills. He was an active participant in the Transitions @ Bridgewater Program at Bridgewater State University. Josh loved being part of something bigger than himself. He embraced opportunities to learn, grow, and explore new experiences. He participated on the Marshfield Unified Sports Team, enjoyed adaptive sailing, and the yearly "Danny's Journey" boating event, yoga sessions, cooking groups, as well as, regular trips riding the "T" to Boston with his adult classmates. He was a proud community volunteer. Josh participated in every aspect of his educational programs with enthusiasm, joy, and determination despite the ongoing medical challenges he battled every day.
Josh was a character with a great sense of humor. He had impeccable taste in music and loved to groove to the beat. He loved watching movies with his family and friends, going for rides, and socializing in the community. Josh enjoyed the outdoors whether it was going for walks, swinging on his swing, or just sitting at the park people watching. Anyone who knew Josh, knows Christmas was his favorite holiday. He was able to find the joy in every moment.
Josh will be remembered as a warrior with a heart of gold. He was a handsome guy with an infectious smile and eyes that drew you close. Josh has left a lasting impression on each and every person he met. Josh's family is grateful to "Team Josh", the ARG1D Community, and Boston Children's Hospital staff, and all the doctors, and nurses, who loved and cared for him.
"It always seems impossible until it's done."
Josh leaves a lasting legacy, and he will be forever in our hearts!
