Judith A. (Sheehy) Durr, 81 of Marshfield, MA passed away on July 16, 2024 in the comfort of her home after a brief, bravely-fought illness. When faced with the diagnosis of a terminal illness, she handled it with grace and gratitude for a life well-lived.
After graduating from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1960, Judy met the love of her life John, and they married in 1963. For 61 years they lived life to the fullest enjoying family, friends, vacations and nights out at many of Marshfield's local restaurants including The Daily Catch, The Compass Rose and Lou's 139. Judy and her husband John made many lasting friendships through the Marshfield Elks lodge. They traveled all over the country going to Elks conventions with those friends. They loved Aruba, cruises, hosting pool parties and wintered in Hollywood Beach, Florida for several years.
Judy was known for her hard work, creativity and business acumen. In her early years she waitressed at Friendly's in Marshfield and Poopsie's in Pembroke. She then went on to start and run several businesses. Her first business was as a successful scrimshaw jewelry designer. In the early 1980's Judy was the owner of Crafts and Flowers florist in Marshfield. She ran a small gift shop in downtown Marshfield for several years and concluded her working years selling her home-décor creations on eBay. She was truly a woman ahead of her time.
Judy was the cornerstone of her family. While she enjoyed working hard at her various jobs, she loved being a mom, Grandma and Gigi. She hosted countless holiday gatherings and enjoyed cooking family favorites as well as experimenting with new recipes. Judy's love for life, tremendous strength and creative flair will carry on with her family, her spirit is with us all.
Judy was the daughter of the late Joseph and Madeline (Ritchie) Sheehy of Boston. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John E. Durr of Marshfield, her two daughters Lauren McCormack of Plymouth, MA and Christine and her husband Stephen Evitts of Stoddard, NH. She was the proud Grandma of Tyler (38), Britney (36) and Dan (31) McCormack and Brendan (27), Jack (27) and Kyle (26) Evitts. Judy was GiGi to her three great-granddaughters Kayleigh (13), Makenzie (13) and Riley (7). She was the beloved sister of Joseph and Laurel Sheehy, Linda Daily and the late Michael Sheehy.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 22. 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Church, 40 Canal Street in Marshfield. Burial will be in the Couch Cemetery, Union Street in Marshfield.
