Obituary – Sunrise 4/17/1938 to Sunset 12/7/2021
Judith Y. (Irving) Roberts of Duxbury, MA passed away at home on December 7, 2021, surrounded by the love and support of her family. Judith was the beloved wife of Charles Roberts, Sr.; Loving mother of Charles Roberts, Jr (wife Debra) of Stoughton, Yvette Roberts (Deceased), Karen Roberts of Mattapan, Keith Roberts of Duxbury, Dale Roberts (wife Annette) of Brockton, Tanya Roberts Daniels of Arizona, Lynn Roberts Samuels (husband Bryan) of Plymouth, Shawn Roberts (wife Denise) of Brockton, Anissa Roberts of Boston, Lyle Roberts (Deceased); Cherished Grandmother to 13 Grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Judith was born in Cambridge, daughter to Hilda R. Chappel and stepfather George Chappel. She went to school and graduated from Girls High in Boston. She met the love of her life and best friend, Charles "Sonny" Roberts in high school and they were married for 66 years. Later relocating to Duxbury, she started her teaching career as a volunteer teacher's aide at the Head Start program in Marshfield. She earned her certifications at Emanuel College and advanced to Head Teacher in the program which had moved to Plymouth. Her love and commitment to her family was also evident in her relationships with her students and their families. She was recognized in the community as a pillar of strength and commitment towards the education and socialization of Pre-school age children. She retired from Head Start 33 years later and was recognized as a local Hero by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Senate on March 27, 2003.
Growing up as an only child, her desire to build a strong and loving family became her top priority. Judith opened her home to many young children on a temporary basis or whatever the situation called for even though she had 10 kids of her own. The most common remarks of her close friends and family were, "Her kids were always so polite and well behaved. If you ever went into her home, everything had its place and was always in order." This is how she managed every aspect of her life, at home and work. She always told us, "Once you have a system in place, it didn't matter if you had 2 or 10 children. It all works the same!"
We will miss her dearly.
