Kathy Krein of Marshfield, MA passed away peacefully under hospice care on December 17th, 2023. She was devoted wife to her husband, Rocky, a loving mother to her two children, Katie and Chris, and an adoring nana to her two grandsons, Jake and Ty. Kathy was born in Brockport, New York to her parents George and Ruth Glynn. She graduated from Brockport High School and went on to complete her Bachelor's degree at Florida State and Brockport Universities.
After completing her student teaching at The American School in Rio de Janeiro, where she was, literally, "the girl from Ipanema" she went on to receive her Master's Degree in Special Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At UNC she met her husband, George (Rocky). The joke in the family in later years was that Rocky supervised Kathy's first internship that lasted four months and then she supervised him for the next 50 years.
After graduating from UNC and marrying, they moved to New Jersey and took jobs at the Bancroft School where Kathy taught in the special needs pre-school. A few years later, they moved to Massachusetts where Kathy began her thirty-year teaching career at Silver Lake Middle School. She leaves behind a cadre of colleagues who came to count on her for teaching and life advice, as well as solace in times of hardship. Kathy was an avid gardener, with a particular love for her 70 rose bushes. She would spend hours every spring and summer in her gardens. For her, it was a labor of love. She had a passion for travel and loved to plan and enjoy adventures throughout the world. After retirement, Kathy was able to pursue her passion for tennis and spent many happy hours at the South Shore YMCA taking lessons, playing, and captaining several competitive teams. She cherished her time with her teammates.
Kathy treasured her large circle of friends and took pride in being a loving, dependable and devoted friend.
She is survived by her husband, George (Rocky), her daughter, Katie and her husband Ben, her son, Chris and his wife Kelly, her grandsons, Jake and Ty, her brother, Bill and eight nieces and nephews (Yaischa, Melissa, Geni, Bre, Will, George, Sean, Joe). The space her passing leaves will be filled over time with the memories of her love, compassion, strength and enthusiasm.
We hope you will join us on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at The North Community Church for a celebration of Kathy's life. Reception and lunch to follow at the parish house. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to South Shore YMCA's "Holiday Assistance" program to which she devoted much time, online at: https://ssymca.org/give/holiday-assistance/
