Lt. Kevin J. McMahon, Retired State Police, 67, of Marshfield formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, October 28, 2021. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late John A. and Enid R. (Oliver) McMahon. Beloved husband of Cherylee Cotter-McMahon, brother to Paula J. Freedman of Mansfield and Cathy McMahon of Wrentham. Brother in-law to Stanley Freedman and Thom Dooley and sister in-law Diane Basler. Proud uncle to Jonathan J. Freedman, John J. Basler, Debra L. Douglass, and Kerrianne Dooley and great uncle to Kaleigh Rose Allen and Jack Charles Douglass.

Kevin was a graduate of Boston Technical High School and the University of Massachusetts Boston. H e received his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College. He began his career in public service as an EMT with the Boston Ambulance Squad. He was then appointed as a police officer with the University of Massachusetts and graduated from the BPD Academy and in November of 1980 he was appointed to the Massachusetts State Police.

Upon graduating the State Police Academy, 62 ^nd RTT, he was assigned to Troop E. From there he transferred to the State Fire Marshall's office where he worked hand in hand with the Boston Arson Squad for several years. While with the Fire Marshall's office, he was appointed to the rank of Corporal. He continued to achieve rank and was promoted to Sergeant and then Lieutenant, from which he retired in September of 2015.

Kevin enjoyed many activities which included vacations cruising the Caribbean, Alaska and Bermuda. He also enjoyed his family trips to York Beach, Maine. He enjoyed going to car shows, hanging out with the "car guys", and driving his hot rod but his most favorite activity was spending time with "Lovey".

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2021 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM and will conclude with a Funeral Service at 4:00 PM at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield.
