Lauren L Ortendahl passed away on July 24th after a life well lived. Her battle with cancer was courageously fought yet she surrendered herself to God peacefully last Tuesday evening. Her soul was set free to fly at 68 years young.
Beloved daughter and first-born child of the late Robert Ortendahl and Louise Ortendahl of Canton, Massachusetts, Lauren was the former wife of John "Jack" Corkery, of Marshfield and the beautiful mother of their three children Odette Louise Miller of Abington, Massachusetts, formerly of Rockland, Linda Michelle Blake (Corkery) of Marshfield, and the late Christopher John Corkery, also of Marshfield.
Lauren leaves behind many other loved ones, her sister Cheryl good of Carver, formerly Canton, Mass., her sister-in-law Karen Ortendahl, wife of her late brother Kenneth of Attleboro, Mass. and also her brother Robert and his wife Paula Ortendahl of Missouri. She is survived by five loving grandchildren: firstborn grandchild Kaleigh Marie Miller of Brunswick Maine, formerly Rockland, daughter of Odette and James Miller, her three grandsons, Thomas Joseph Blake III, Michael Thomas Blake and Christopher John- Thomas Blake, all of Marshfield, children of Linda& Thomas Blake and also her granddaughter Madison Leigh Corkery, daughter of her late son Christopher Corkery and Kimberly Weslowski. Lauren also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Renee Nestor (Good), Daniel Good, Ryan Ortendahl and Amanda Ortendahl, as well as many cousins, especially the much-loved Linda McDermott of Brockton, and her brother David Aldrich of Weymouth. Lauren also will be missed by countless friends, neighbors and people in her home town of Marshfield.
Lauren was raised in Canton Massachusetts yet became a resident of Marshfield after graduating from Canton High School. She loved her childhood vacations on Rexhame beach, and settled permanently near her grandparent's summer home, an oceanfront cottage on Abbey Street that she spent every summer at since her birth in 1949. Lauren had met Jack as summer kids in Marshfield (Jack was from Cambridge, MA) and so they started their family where they had fallen in love on Rexhame Beach. Lauren resided in the same home on Brunswick Street for the rest of her 68 years, raising her children there and grandchildren as well.
Throughout her life, Lauren held a variety of jobs to support herself and her family, primarily in the customer service and healthcare fields, yet her true career was being at home mom as much as possible and raising her children right. She had a hand in helping out a lot of the other neighborhood kids as well and is fondly remembered for that. Lauren was also a Pianist and an accomplished Crafter, gifted in the arts of knitting, crocheting and sewing. She had such a great sense of humor, loved Comedians and good laughs with family and friends and so many funny movies. She could sing and dance so well and enjoyed many genres of music. We will all treasure such great memories of so many good times with her singing and dancing and laughing...so many beautiful days and long walks on our beautiful beaches. She loved breaking bread not only with her family and friends with but with people in her community. Lauren had such an easy way about her and was so sociable. Lauren's beautiful smile, silky brunette hair, diminutive frame, bronze skin and gorgeous blue green eyes were a striking combination, yet her greatest asset was her lovely warm heart& spunky personality.
Lauren will be especially remembered for her love of family, for her generosity as a friend and for her own personal courage. her strength gave others strength and her faith in Jesus Christ allowed her to overcome so much in her life. Lauren truly was an inspiration to so many and will be greatly missed, yet we will never forget her and we'll speak of her often and continue to laugh and sing and dance and sit in the sun knowing she is always with us now because love never dies, so smile with her now, she's at peace and we should all thank God for giving us such a gift, people like her are such a blessing to the world.
