LEON M. PERRY was born on April 8, 1926 in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was the son of his parents Father Leon Perry and Mother Lulu Rogers. He departed his life on June 3, 2026. He lived to celebrate his 100th birthday this past April 2026.
As a young man he attended and was educated under the North Carolina Elementary and High School systems. Mr. Perry joined the U.S. Navy and rose to the rank of Seaman Steward 3rd Class (E4) during World War II while stationed at Pensacola, Florida. It was here he met and married his beloved and devoted wife, Carleno Perry, who predeceased him on January 31, 2011. They were happily married for sixty-six years.
He received an honorable discharge on April 11, 1946. After his tour of duty ended, they settled in Boston, Massachusetts for a short length of time. In the mid 1950’s they moved to Marshfield, MA. where they bought their first new home at 271 Oak Street, Marshfield, where they lived for many years.
Both Leon and Carleno Perry were faithful, active members of Concord Baptist Church, Boston, MA.
Leon was employed as a cookie salesman by the Sunshine Biscuit Company servicing the South Shore Supermarkets. He always greeted those shoppers who knew him with his captivating smile while restocking the shelves at the local Stop and Shop in Pembroke, MA. His favorite hobbies were traveling, fishing, and watching his favorite sport games.
Leon was a passionate animal lover and he adopted a pet dog boxer named “King” as a family member.
Leon will be long remembered for his military service, community service, and by his neighbors for his enduring spirit of generosity toward others and assisting those in need even when his own resources were limited.
Mr. Perry was relocated to the Cardigan Nursing and Rehabilitation, Scituate, MA. much nearer to his extended family. As his health issues increased during the last six months, Autumn Hospice of Norwell, MA was called in to make his final transition as comfortable as possible. He was fondly revered, respected and cared for by the certified nursing assistants (CNA) in his care. It is evident that it was the care and relationships developed and fostered during his time spent at Cardigan nursing home which helped to extend his life. He leaves to mourn his caregivers, Mr. & Mrs. Jimmy and Georgia Coleman and family who faithfully remained by his side with love and compassion.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield, followed by a funeral procession to the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, where both Leon and Carleno will be laid to rest at 12:45 p.m.
