Lion Hearted
Our beloved Leonard "Lenny" Cianciolo, age 78, went home to be with the Lord on September 3, 2021. Son of the late Antonia (Vita) Cianciolo and the late Lorenzo Francesco Cianciolo he was very proud of the Sicilian heritage they passed on to him. Devoted husband of 53 years of Janet Cianciolo, his best friend and love of his life, Loving father of Judy Peddell and her late husband Kenneth, Cynthia Williams and her husband David, and the late Stephen Cianciolo. Caring brother of Sally (Cianciolo) Murray and Lawrence Cianciolo. Remarkable grandfather of five cherished granddaughters Brittany, Chantalle, Melissa, Kiersten, and Anna, his only grandson David, two great-granddaughters Maci and Keira, and two great-grandsons Cameron and Luca. He also leaves behind his special feline friend Toby, that he lovingly cared for as his own after the passing of his son Stephen.
Leonard grew up in Arlington and attended the prestigious New Preparatory School in Cambridge, MA. Following graduation, he was dedicated to working with his father in the family business of Merchants Poultry in the New Boston Food Market in South Boston. While maintaining his commitment to the family business Leonard served our nation as a proud active member of the United States Army Reserves.
A hardworking man of integrity and deep faith, Leonard honored his family by consistently demonstrating a strong work ethic to provide for their needs. Throughout his life, Lenny cared about people and always did whatever he could to help and encourage others. He relished celebrating the achievements of his loved ones and could often be found sitting in someone's cheering section; especially his grandchildren for whom he was an enthusiastic champion.
Leonard was an avid baseball fan and played while growing up. In his later years he traveled to Sarasota for the winter and got to know all the baseball parks and coaches in the area. However, as a Bostonian he was a diehard Red Sox fan.
His love of sports didn't end with baseball. In his earlier years, he was a competitive runner. Almost every night he would come home from work and go on a 15-mile run. From the 70's to the 90's he ran the Boston Marathon and time after time he finished in under 3 hours. Throughout his lifetime he also took part in the New York Marathon and several other smaller races.
When he wasn't cheering on his family and friends or favorite baseball team he was often seated at the piano sharing the gift of music. Thoughts of this man of strength, seated at the piano, will forever play upon the heart strings of his family and friends. Leonard shared his heart through music and his rhythmic beat will live on in their treasured memories.
The world was a better place by his presence in it. Our dearest husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend you are greatly loved and will be missed forevermore until we see you again.
