With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Linda L McGrath of Marshfield Massachusetts on November 23, 2023 after a lifelong battle with a myriad of chronic illnesses at the age of 81. Linda was the energizer bunny, fought through everything and kept going with a smile on her face. She can rest now and her heart is happy.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Arthur and Lydia (Cummings) McGrath. She was one of 3 girls and leaves behind her two sisters. Linda was the blonde. The brunette, Janet Pickering and her husband Les of Georgia and the redhead, Susan Sage and her husband Jimmy of Hanover. The mailman and plumber were always eyed suspiciously by their dad.
She also leaves behind her 3 children, Susan Waterman of Marshfield, Ricky Waterman of Nevada and Jill Calk and her husband Alfred of Marshfield and her 5 bonus children from a blended marriage, Michael Donovan and his wife Jean of Virginia, Brian Donovan and his wife Eileen of New York, Billy Donovan of Florida, Anne Donovan of Florida, and Laura Donovan and her husband Dave of New Jersey. She was predeceased by her son Licorice the kitty who was her favorite.
She was the obsessed grandmother (Neena) of Chloe and Charlie Calk and Grandma Linda of Matt, Andrew, Jamie, Tara, Timothy and thought Katherine and Elizabeth are beautiful.
Linda spent her early years in Dorchester and moved to Milton when she was 10. She graduated from St. Gregory's school in Dorchester. After high school she worked for John Hancock Insurance before getting married and settling in Marshfield and raising her children.
Linda worked in various jobs along the way. Her favorites being Marshfield's Famous pizza in the 70's, making pizza for the intoxicated youths in Marshfield until 4:00 AM. United Consumers Club, where she assisted in helping people decorate their homes. She finally ended up at Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare helping people with their healthcare and tracking down answers for people. She received many commendations for her big heart in that job.
Health reasons brought on her retirement. She spent her time doting on her grandchildren, watching her cooking shows, decorating shows and gardening shows. She would cook up gourmet dinners for one, sit on the back deck watching her hummingbird feeders and growing her spices. She had the most fun laughing hysterically on the phone with Grace Madden and Linda Spargo, her friends until the end.
Linda had the most beautiful smile, sparkling blue eyes and the most beautiful skin.
She had a heart of pure gold. If she was offered a choice of kitten, she picked the runt of the litter. If you were cold, she'd give you her blanket. If you were hungry, she would give you her eggplant parmesan. If you had nowhere to go, her door was always open. She opened it for many.
