Lorraine Theresa Whitehouse, of Duxbury, passed away on Christmas Eve. Born November 4, 1931 to the late Cora and Paul April, Lorraine grew up in Duxbury, graduating from Duxbury High School class of '49. She and the love of her life William (Bill) Whitehouse were married for 57 years and together they raised 9 children in Duxbury.
Lorraine was an artist at heart who possessed many talents. She was an accomplished musician, prolific seamstress, quilter extraordinaire and avid gardener. She was the founder of the highly popular Holy Family Folk Group as well as the Music Director and organist for some 40 years. Lorraine's favorite day of the year was always Christmas Eve where her talents were on full display as she helped orchestrate beautiful music ensembles for the Holy Family and wider faith community of the south shore throughout her musical career. It was therefore appropriate and fitting that she went home to god on the night of Christmas Eve.
Lorraine's talent as a seamstress allowed her to create original wedding dresses for her seven daughters. An avid quilter in retirement, Lorraine's submissions won numerous blue ribbons at the Marshfield Fair over the years.
Lorraine's greatest joy was found in being with her close-knit family. Throughout her life, she was surrounded by her 9 children, their spouses, 24 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Her home was always open, and all were welcome.
Lorraine is survived by 8 children; Terri Woodward and her husband Tom of Plymouth, Sally Bolster and her husband Jeff of Duxbury, Mary Kramer and her husband Pat of Duxbury, Kathy Shields and her husband Jack of Duxbury, Paul Whitehouse and his wife Sandrine of Luxembourg, Pam Habel and her husband Chris of Duxbury, Karen Macleod and her husband Dennis of Duxbury as well as Jennifer Whitehouse and her partner David White of Plymouth; 23 grandchildren, Allie, Jay, Kyle, Ashley, Kelsey, Dane, Aaron, Grant, Fallon, Jack, Will, Maddie, Chloe, Lucie, Charlotte, Cole, Brett, Will, Spencer, Abby, Colin, Neal, and Hadley; and her beloved dog Lucky. Lorraine is also survived by her siblings--Ed April of Marshfield, Helen April of Connecticut, Carol Bourque and her husband Ed of Connecticut, Paul April and his wife Mary Lou of Falmouth, Janet Robinson and her husband Fred of Maine, Sue Blehm and her husband Jack of Oklahoma. Lorraine is predeceased by her son William (Billy) Jr,, her grandson Aidan, and her brother John April.
Lorraine lived a joyful life filled with faith and family. She expressed herself through artistic creativity and giving all her days.
We shall miss our sweet mother, she made the world a better, more beautiful place for all to behold.
