Lya J. (Dreyman) Fait, age 86, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2018. Lya (pronounced Lee-a) was the beloved mother of Laura (Fait) Harvey (Dana), and Donald Fait (Tory), both of Marshfield. She will be greatly missed by her cherished grandchildren; Zachary Fait of Portland, ME, Nicholas Fait of Manhatten, NYC and Olivia Harvey of Boston. Lya was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2011.
Born in 1932 to Estonian immigrant parents, Lya grew up in Astoria (Queens), NY, where she met and married George. The couple moved to Quincy, MA and then to Marshfield in the early 1960's. Lya worked as a volunteer for several local and regional organizations, including the League of Women Voters, WGBH, Marshfield's Planning Board, Clift Rodgers Library and the North River Arts Society. Lya enjoyed traveling with George on his many business trips, as well as vacationing with family and friends. She was happiest, however, when entertaining her extended family at home – the dining room table was always filled with loved ones, LOTS of food and many laughs. Lya's interest in antiques eventually led to her and a partner opening a small shop in Duxbury in the 1990's. She loved playing bridge, oil painting and reading. For many years, she and George were active members of the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Hanover, MA.
A celebration of Lya's life will take place on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Grand Army Hall (GAR) 353 Country Way, Scituate, MA. Donations may be made in Lya's memory to the Perkins School for the Blind
