Young; loving mother to Mark Young and his wife Sandra of Marshfield, Joseph Young and his wife Tara of Plymouth, Ann-Margaret Gorham and her husband William of Marshfield,
and Paul Young of Marshfield; loving Nana to Ryan, Brianna, Megan, Nicholas, Mikayla, Joey Caitlyn, Ashley, Johnny ,Travis, Wyatt and Tucker; dear sister of Joseph Marmai and his wife Christine of Hanover; daughter of the late Joseph and Ann Marmai, along with many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her faithful furry companion Koda. Affectionately known as "Sugar" to all who knew her, she was born in Dorchester to the late Joseph and Ann Marmai.
The Marmai family summered in Marshfield beginning in 1947, then made the permanent move in 1957. Sugar graduated from Saint Patrick's High School in Roxbury in 1957. Her passion for dancing as a young child brought her to open her own dance studio in 1958, the Sugar Marmai School of Dance, where she taught tap, jazz and ballet. It is there through mutual friends that she met Frank, the love of her life, in 1960. They married on September 12,1964 and started their beautiful family.
Sugar was a pillar of the Marshfield community who touched so many lives with her love, grace and compassion. She served as Marshfield High School Cheerleading Coach for 25 years, and 35 years with the Plymouth Area Collaborative as an Educator for children with special needs. She was an active member in the Marshfield Order of the Sons of Italy.
Sugar enjoyed time with family and friends above all else but her greatest joy in life was becoming a grandmother "Nana "loved nothing more than spending time with her beautiful grandchildren. "Nana Sugar "was well known throughout as she attended every school celebration, sporting event, dance recital or whatever else her grandchildren were doing they knew that "Nana Sugar "would be there front and center cheering them on.
Sugar lived her life knowing that giving was more of a blessing than receiving, and her generosity knew no bounds. Her radiant smile lit up any room she entered. She embodied the best qualities unconditional love, strength of spirit, fierce loyalty, determination, and unending generosity. This showed in her character as a mother, grandmother, teacher, Coach and dear friend to all.
