Marcia F.
Fernandes
Nov 2, 1941 — Sep 13, 2026
Marshfield
Marcia F. (Paulding) Fernandes, 84, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully at home on September 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
The daughter of the late Alpha and Nathalie (Hart) Paulding, she was the loving mother of Theresa (James) Nelson of Marshfield, Debra Fernandes of Bourne, Karen (Virginio) Pereira of Florida. Marcia leaves her grandchildren Jennifer (C.J.) Davis of Plymouth, Stephen Nelson of Marshfield, Manuel (Laura) Pereira of Attleboro and Nicholas (Victoria) Pereira of Plymouth, and her great-grandchildren Kristine Kearney, Jackson Davis, Colton Davis, Nathaniel Pereira, Jonathan Pereira, and Sophia Pereira. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Alicia Nelson and her sister Carol Chouinard. Marcia is also survived by her siblings Janis Swanson, Gail Beck, Barbara Hall and John Paulding.
Born in Rockland, Marcia moved to Marshfield at the age of 12 after spending summers in Brant Rock at Blue Fish Cove. She was a 1959 graduate of Marshfield High School. She worked as a bank teller at Rockland Trust in Scituate and was also longtime waitress at the Bridgewaye Inn, which remained one of her favorite places long after retirement.
Her Friday lunch dates with her granddaughter were a highlight of her week in recent years. The staff and patrons at the Bridgewaye cared for her like family and listened to her reminisce about the “good old days,” when there was a dance floor and live bands at the restaurant.
Marcia took great pride in her home of more than 60 years and meticulously cared for her yard. She spent hours working outdoors, always striving to have the best-looking yard in the neighborhood. She was a joy to be around, and her warmth, stories, and presence will be dearly missed.
Services will be private. In honor of Marcia’s life, the family welcomes donations to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to advance cancer care, online at: https://www.dana-farber.org/ or the Alzheimer’s Association to support families facing dementia, online at: https://www.alz.org/
