Margaret ‘Margo’ A. Hughes (Johnson) of Marshfield, passed away peacefully in her home on June 26th, 2026.

Margo was the beloved wife of 58 years to the late William ‘Bill’ Hughes and devoted mother of Diane Nagi and her husband Paul, Tom Hughes and his wife Lauren, and the late Marybeth Rorke and Chip Hughes.

Margo was born on October 30th, 1936 in Medford and raised in Belmont. She attended Belmont High School and was a graduate of Regis College. Margo was a longtime teacher in Marshfield Public Schools until retiring in 2002. After retirement, Margo and Bill enjoyed 13 years of retirement in Englewood, Florida before returning home to Marshfield.

Margo was the proud grandmother of Heather Hanafin and her husband Eric, Amanda McLaughlin and her husband Ricky, Jimmy Rorke and his wife Victoria, Billy Hughes, Bryan Hughes and the late Daniel Hughes, Katelyn Farmer and her husband Tim, Lisa Nagi, Tom Hughes and his wife Lisa, Matt Hughes and his wife Christina, and Emily Hughes.

Margo was also blessed with 14 great grandchildren, Mabel, Lila and Bridget Hanafin, Frankie, Alice and Conor McLaughlin, Jack, Charlotte and Juliette Rorke, Camilla, Jett and Rocco Hughes and Cece and Jack Farmer.

Margo was predeceased by her brother, J. Albert Johnson.

Margo will be remembered for her warm heart and the joy she brought to those she loved. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and the family she loved so deeply.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday July 1st, 2026 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated directly after at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 40 Canal Street, Marshfield.

Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be private.
