Obituary

Margaret, or Peggy, as she was affectionately known, was born to parents Alma (LeBlanc) and Florance Sullivan in 1925, growing up in East Cambridge, MA, during times of both great fun, and great strife - a child during the Great Depression, and a teenager at the height of WWII. She was one of six industrious and mischievous girls who included Anne (Rudnicki, of Roslindale), Theresa (Missiano, of East Boston), Florence (Sullivan, of Cambridge), Evelyn (Ahern, of Cambridge) and Mary (Hartnett, of Goffstown, NH), and one boy, John (Sullivan, of Cambridge) - all of whom predeceased her.

Losing their father to pneumonia when Margaret was just 11 years old, and their only brother to a terrible accident when he was just 4 years old, the family struggled to make ends meet. They still managed to have many fun and good times together, though, despite their difficult circumstances, while at the same time learning the value of hard work, charity and kindness, virtues she carried forward for the rest of her own life (as did her sisters). As long as she lived she truly appreciated the kindnesses others had bestowed upon her, and was very kind and giving to others, in return.

With her sisters, Margaret volunteered for the USO during WWII. She met a handsome former soldier through her sister, Anne, and Anne's best friend, Kay Pieroni. She married Bill Pieroni of Somerville in 1948, sharing their lives together - in Somerville, Medford and later Hyannis - until his passing in 1986. Margaret stayed home to raise their family for many years while Bill owned and operated Italian food company Pieroni Foods of Somerville, with raviolis and sauce for everyone! Later she devoted her life to caring for elderly and infirm patients in several nursing homes in both the Boston and Cape Cod areas, and she never tired of doing whatever she could to help the people in her care and make them more comfortable, no matter how great their needs were.

Margaret loved to cook and her family remembers three squares a day, every day, like clockwork! She continued to cook well into her 90s. She also said the rosary almost every day of her life and gladly prayed for anyone who needed it. (And her prayers were always answered.) While raising their kids they enjoyed many trips to NYC, Coney Island, Atlantic City, NJ, Niagara Falls, and Nova Scotia and Montreal Canada, and often visited the many amusement parks all these and local areas had to offer to ensure that the kids had fun.

Peg and Bill had four children together - Mary, who died at birth, Bill Pieroni Jr of Wolfeboro, NH, Janice Pieroni (and Jim Polianites), of Newton, and Linda Pieroni (and Paul Munro), of Marshfield, with whom she shared a home for the past 25 years. She also had four grandchildren, Jessica and Greg Teicher, and Andrea and Christopher Munro, whom she loved tremendously. Margaret also leaves many loving in laws (including the entire Munro family), nieces and nephews, and good friends and neighbors.

A special thanks to the Norwell VNA and Hospice; to Paul, Andrea, and Chris Munro, and Olivia Desmond, for helping Linda make Margaret's final days at home optimally comfortable and peaceful; to Maryellen Pieroni for calling and sending endless cheery cards and mementos to Margaret that brightened her days; to Bill and Karen for giving Margaret the most amazing moose fleece blankets that had every nurse that came in to see her wishing they could jump into her comfy bed and take a nap; and to Janice and Jim for being there for Margaret during some of the difficult surgeries and hospitalizations she had during the course of her illness as well as bringing Gunther Tooties bagels and flowers for the care squad many weekends. Your care, compassion and concern were greatly appreciated!

In lieu of flowers, Margaret would be thrilled to know that donations went to the Marshfield Community Christmas, PO Box 173, Marshfield, MA, 02050, so that others, especially children who may be in circumstances similar to her own when she was a child, may experience some joy at Christmas the way she did thanks to the kindness of others.
