Obituary

Margaret ("Peggy") Willard Taylor, of Harwich, MA, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on October 27, 2024. She was 85 years old.

Peggy was born in February 1939 to Henry W. and Margaret R. (Goodlatte) Willard in Passaic, NJ. She graduated from Passaic High School and went on to study English at Mary Washington University. Upon leaving college, Peggy traveled solo throughout Europe and would later enjoy many more trips abroad with her husband, Harry.

Upon her return, Peggy began working for AT&T. It was shortly after that when she met Harry Taylor, at a party outside of Philadelphia. They made each other laugh from the moment they met and were married in November 1966. They were married for 56 years.

Work opportunities would take them to Columbus, OH and then to Holden, MA, where they raised their two children. Peggy was heavily involved in the Worcester Junior League and volunteered her time whenever able. After spending summers on Cape Cod for decades, Harry and Peggy relocated to Harwich, MA full-time. It was here where Peggy felt the most content. She was an avid reader and loyal book club member, who enjoyed the companionship of her close friends. Mostly, Peggy loved spending time with family and watching her six grandchildren grow. She knew every high school sport schedule, every school play performance, every artistic endeavor, every college home and away game, and attended as many as possible. She was so incredibly proud of "her people".

Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Harry I. Taylor, Sr. and her son, Harry ("Chip") I. Taylor, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Rice (husband Kyle), her daughter-in-law Jennifer Taylor (late husband Chip) and her six grandchildren Harrison Taylor, Ethan Rice, Hannah Taylor, Avery Rice, Oliver Rice, and Emily Taylor.

Peggy is also survived by her three brothers Henry Willard (wife Cindy), John Willard (wife Patty), Thomas Willard (wife Barbara), her sister, Betsey Willard, her nieces Elisabeth Dorsey, Ann Margaret Rocco, Christine Mecca, Julie Stenz, and nephews Patrick Butterfield and Christopher Adams.

Peggy will be remembered for her fierce loyalty, her honesty, her sharp wit, and her warm heart.
