Marie (McLaughlin) Dick, age 87, longtime resident of Marshfield, died peacefully in hospice care on May 12, 2022, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. She was the beloved wife of Robert B. Dick, Jr. with whom she shared 64 years of marriage. Marie, a mother of 2, leaves behind Kathleen Weatherly and husband Bob of Orlando, Florida and Philip Dick and his wife Nancy of Marshfield, Massachusetts.
Born in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late John and Marie (Wenz) McLaughlin and sister of the late George E. McLaughlin and his late wife Nancy, the late John McLaughlin and his late wife Rita, the late Frances Svelnis, and her husband Alfred, and survived by Grace Carty and her late husband Joseph.
Marie enjoyed her visits from her family and friends and most of all cherished her extended family, the many nieces and nephews and cousins. She always enjoyed hearing about the accomplishments of her many great nieces and nephews.
Marie graduated from Whitman Hanson High School, where she met her husband, Robert. She went on to graduate from Regis College with a teaching degree and began working in the local school systems of Whitman and Marshfield. She then took a position with the Massachusetts Welfare department while she worked on her Master's in Education Degree. In 1972, she returned to teaching and began working for the Duxbury school system, where she retired after 21 years. Marie's passion was educating others.
When her children were young, Marie enjoyed taking them to Humarock where she summered as a child. Other adventures included sailing in Duxbury Bay, mopeding and reading by her pool. As their family grew older, they became avid snowmobilers. Most winter weekends were spent driving to New Hampshire and riding through the woods enjoying the outdoors and wildlife. As time went on, Marie continued to join her husband, Bob, and son Phil on snowmobile trips through Maine and Canada. The most memorable trip was when Marie decided to lead the way back to camp, which turned a 100-mile trip into 188 miles, deeming her "Momma 188". Many friends and family have fond memories of their snowmobile trips with Marie and the family.
Marie will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
