Marie E. Higgins of Marshfield passed away on June 1, 2026 at the age of 92 at home peacefully with her family by her side.
Born and raised in Somerville, MA the only child of the late Daniel and Anne (Doyle) Kelleher.
She was a loving wife to the love of her life, the late Lawrence “Bud” Higgins and wonderful mother to her six children Kathy Higgins of Rockland, Nancy Fernald and her late husband Dan of Middleborough, Larry Higgins and his wife Jean of Pembroke, Diane Dangoia and her husband Mark of Bridgewater, Dan Higgins and his wife Kelley of Holliston, and Sharon Jones and her husband Mark of Falmouth.
Cherished Nana to thirteen grandchildren Danielle Kilgour, Kristin Stone, Steve Fernald, Kelly Dabilis, Kayla Gay, Katie Holden, Ashley Mulvaney, Melissa Laubi, Lauren Higgins, Danny Higgins, Cooper Jones, Erica Laubi and Zack Jones. Great Nana to twelve great grandchildren Liam, Logan, Brooklyn, Ella, Austin, Jax, Benny, Olivia, Josephine, Vivienne, Opal and Lyla.
Sister – in – law to John and Reany Higgins, Jim and Lianne Higgins, the late Luke & Dorothy Higgins, Paul and the late Betty Higgins, Leo and the late Elaine Higgins, the late George and his wife Susan Higgins and Richie and the late Trina Higgins. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Marie was a devout Catholic who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to travel and attended many of the grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved card games and was the Queen of cribbage and taught all her children and some grandchildren this game. She also loved, dancing, reading, jewelry making, bingo and many other activities. She loved attending musicals, plays, senior citizen trips and was always up for a good beach day. The cold Atlantic water never stopped her from swimming. She was an avid Boston sports fan always cheering for the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots and Red Sox.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 40 Canal Street in Marshfield. Burial will be at Couch Cemetery in Marshfield.
