Marie Mahoney - September 20, 1925 - May 20, 2020
A. Marie (Kelly) Mahoney passed away on May 20, 2020. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of Agnes (Flaherty) and John Kelly. She was happily married to her husband Bob for more than 50 years with the pair making homes in Newton and Marshfield MA and Stuart FL. Together they raised seven children, Peg (Steve) Cohen, Susan (Bruce) Klingerman, Mo Mahoney, Bill Mahoney, Bob (Debbie) Mahoney, Mike (Lisa) Mahoney and Julie (Chris) Morrison. In addition to her twenty grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Marie had many nieces and nephews including Joseph Murphy. She was the sister of Adelaide Sullivan and was predeceased by her siblings - Peg Riordan, Jack Kelly and Patricia Caddick - as well as by her husband's family. She enjoyed the company of her many friends and neighbors in both Massachusetts and Florida.
In addition to raising her family, Marie enjoyed a career as an administrative assistant, most recently at Boston College. A woman of great intelligence, Marie was an avid reader and completed New York Times' crossword puzzles in pen. She was open to learning new things including computers and word processing and even took night classes at the local high school to learn the "new math" that was confounding her children. She was grounded in her faith and was an active parishioner at St. Joseph's church in Stuart and Our Lady of the Assumption in Marshfield. In her mind there was no problem in life that couldn't be resolved with a well-placed Hail Mary and some Nestle Crunch bars. Marie didn't enjoy being fussed over and was known to sit down through a complete meal only twice in her adult life, always jumping up to refill a dish or inviting others to eat more. To further fulfill this need to feed people, she delivered Meals on Wheels to the less fortunate for over a decade. Marie was adventurous enough to try camping, golfing and even yoga and was the chairperson of the official summer vacation known as Mahoney Palooza. She was loving and supportive and will be deeply missed.
Donations in Marie's memory may be made to the National Brain Tumor Society, 55 Chapel Street, Suite 200, Newton MA 02458 or to the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital - Plymouth, FBO Cranberry Hospice, 275 Sandwich Street, Plymouth MA 02360.
