Marilyn Priscilla (Martin) Hassett was born on April 22, 1934, the oldest daughter of Roy and Mary (Delaney) Martin. Marilyn grew up in East Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School in 1952. She married in 1956, raising her 5 children in North Marshfield.
After a career at Talbots, Marilyn enjoyed 27 years of retirement in Scituate, spending time with her large extended family and concentrating on her work as an artist. She was forever optimistic and saw the best in everyone she knew. She enjoyed cooking for her family, studying clouds, and traveling to Europe from the comfort of her sofa with Rick Steves. She was a prolific yard saler and thrift store shopper.
Her greatest joy was her family, and she was proud of them all. She is survived by her five children John Hassett and wife Ann, Kathryn Friel and husband Bill, James Hassett and wife Sheryl, Elizabeth Hopkins and husband Kevin, and Robert Hassett; ten grandchildren Kate Hassett, Elizabeth Hassett, Lauren Friel, Jackie Friel Chouinard, Ryan Friel, Tori Hassett Pari, Michael Hassett, Samantha Hassett, Robert Hopkins, and David Hopkins; and two great grandchildren Christopher Friel and Ryan Hopkins.
Marilyn leaves behind her brothers Roy Martin and Thomas Martin, sisters Helen Lundquist and Mary Rose O'Connell, honorary daughter Jennifer Lambert, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and sister Hazel Brown.
