Marina Anne (Eccleston) Dubois, born on February 1, 1952, in London, England, passed unexpectedly at home in Marshfield on Saturday April 15, 2023. Marina was a graduate of Marshfield High School, class of 1970 and a 1979 graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Boston with a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies and Eastern Philosophy.
Marina was a lifelong learner and educator, imparting her wisdom and support to all that she knew. A natural problem solver, she was keen to provide guidance and love to everyone she came across. She encouraged people to think deeply, to contemplate and consider possibilities boldly outside of the norm. Marina loved all things beautiful: flowers, art, music, clothing, jewelry, antiques, flora, and fauna. She was creative, enjoying painting, singing, and photography.
She was an intuitive empath, understanding and feeling things on the deepest level. Marina was unendingly patient and compassionate. She said that she was put on this earth to love, and she loved deeply. Having many times fostered both children and animals, she refused to tolerate injustice and always spoke out when she saw it. She had a passion for the truth and imparted that to her children.
No one who heard her laugh could or would ever forget it. Accurately categorized as a guffaw, it was all-too-frequently followed by an attempt to apologize that only made it more endearing. Marina could break the ice with a stranger in a random setting and leave with a newfound friend. While spinal injuries hampered her mobility in the last few years, pre-pandemic she enjoyed traveling with family and friends, visiting Ireland, the Vatican, and her surprise favorite, Mexico's west coast.
Marina was a caring wife and a loving mother. She was a devoted Nana, who committed the past decade of her life to raising her grandsons alongside their parents. Marina is survived by Andrew, her husband of more than 50 years, additionally, by her son Aaron and his wife Meghan of Stockbridge, her son Eliot of Marshfield, and her daughter Hillary (Dubois) Farquharson and her husband Seth of Marion. She will always be loved, remembered, and cherished by her grandsons Cillian, Rowan, and Wolfie, also of Marion.
Additionally, she is survived by her mother Philippa and sister Caroline of Marshfield, her brother Richard and his wife Joy of Shirley, sister Cathy of Florida, her sister-in-law Kathleen Eacrett, and Sister Jennifer and her husband Bill McClendon of Marshfield, and her brother Christopher and his fiancé Kerri of Sandwich. She is also survived by her brother Patrick and sister Cynthia.
She is also survived by her in-laws of more than 50 years, Mabel and Dan Ellis, Meg and James Lim, Mary and Rick Taylor, Richard and Holly Dubois, and Ned and Carole Dubois.
Marina was predeceased by her brother Michael and in-laws Edward and Elizabeth Dubois, all of Marshfield.
She is additionally survived by many nieces and nephews that she enjoyed watching grow into adults. Marina is also survived by so many people that after spending a lifetime with, or only a few occasions with whom she loved and impacted. We should all be so lucky to make as great of an impact she did.
Marina gave more to this world than can ever truly be captured. She was a force for good, a true warrior queen.
A private wake will be held Thursday April 20, 2023 with a larger 'Celebration of Life' to be held this summer.
