IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark Stephen
Dooner
November 26, 1961 – September 8, 2024
Mark Stephen Dooner of Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away on September 8, 2024.
Mark was born in Boston in 1961 and grew up in Dorchester. He attended St. Peter's School, where he was a member of the band, and grew to love playing his trumpet. He moved to Milton and after graduating from Milton High School Mark enlisted with "The Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps". With the Crusaders, composed entirely of brass players, percussionists and color guard members under the age of 22, Mark traveled each summer, performing in competitions and exhibitions. He later attended UMass Boston.
Mark had many talents, working as a painter, mason, handyman and landscaper - always with excellence. He was also a great pool player with an extremely competitive side. But his best talent of all… he was a musician. Fueled by his love for music, he became Cocoa Beach's Street performer known to most residents as a "Kool Horn player". He was also fueled by his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and could be found playing the trumpet during church services especially around the holidays. He loved playing Christmas songs.
Mark was kindhearted, caring for others, serving the homeless with hot meals and a welcoming smile. He had a loving, caring and relaxed personality that put others at ease. He lightened the mood wherever he went. Mark was often found helping anyone in need with unwavering generosity as well as caring for the sick. He was an animal lover, and they loved him.
Although Mark moved to Florida, his heart for his mom never wavered. They were kindred spirits and continued to talk daily; sometimes 2x daily. Mark loved Kaila, his "heart adopted" daughter. She always remained in his heart.
Mark was the loving son of Sarah A. (LaMarca) Dooner and the late Paul F. Dooner of Boston. He is survived by his siblings Gail A. Lusson of Santa Monica, CA, Paul F. Dooner II and his wife Marie of Randolph, MA, Elaine M. (Donahue) Taylor and her husband Leonard Sr., of Marshfield, James M. Dooner of East Flat Rock, NC, Mary A. Griffin and her husband Brian, Brian R. Dooner and his wife Kristin of Pembroke, and Lisa M. Supple and her husband David. Mark is survived by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his nephew, Paul F. Dooner III. He was a loyal friend to Edith (Eedee) Hall, (Uncle) Dave Reynolds and Terry (Ohio). They were like a "second family" to him.
