Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Martha Celia (DeCoster) Noyes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, on May 12, 2025 at the age of 88.  She was born on December 29, 1936 in Sanford, ME to Carroll Roswell DeCoster and Dora Louise Colomy DeCoster, the third of seven sisters.  She was predeceased by Peter Burton Noyes, her husband of 58 years, sister Maude Ware, brothers-in-law Dwight Ware and Harold DeCoster, and daughter-in-law Sarah Bartram Noyes.  She is survived by her children Jon Noyes, Peter Noyes, Brian Noyes and Amy Sack (Brian); grandchildren Bridget, Emma, Jacob, Peter, Abigail, Cristian, Jessica and Jillian; sisters Mary DeCoste, Melinda Thornton (Ben), Marion Sirman (Jack), Mona Wright (Thomas) and Molly DeCoster; brother-in-law Kenneth R. Blanchard and his wife Donna; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Martha attended elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse in East Kingston, NH.  The family moved to Abington, MA in 1945.  She graduated from Abington High School in 1954, where she was Valedictorian and Homecoming Queen.  She attended nursing school at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and became a Registered Nurse at MGH in 1957 and, later, at South Shore Hospital.  She was a lifelong Unitarian Universalist and member of the First Parish Church in Duxbury, MA.  She married Peter Noyes on June 29, 1957.  They moved to Marshfield in 1967 with three young boys, and in 1969 her daughter was born.

Martha had a passion for taking care of her children and grandchildren, cooking and gardening.  The family will carry on her treasured recipes for blueberry buckle, apple pies, gingerbread man and raspberry cookies, and the annual contest for Christmas rolls.  She took great pleasure in welcoming family and friends in for tea.  Martha was grateful for the loving care of each of her four children for the past decade during her many illnesses.

Burial in the Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury will be private.  Contributions may be made in her name to the Peter B. Noyes Library at Daniel Webster School, 1456 Ocean St., Marshfield, MA 02050.
