Mary Agnes O'Donovan Devine passed on February 8th, 2023.

Mary was born in 1937 to Dennis and Agnes (Ford) O'Donovan who migrated from Ireland in the 1920s.  Mary, wedded with Donald Devine for 62 years, grew up in Dorchester, moved to Marshfield in 1965, reared 4 boys, worked 20 years at Shawmut Bank, and was co-owner of the Brant Rock Market.

Surviving Mary are her sister, Ann Butler of Weymouth; her children, Brian Devine and wife Beth, Donny Devine and wife Diana, Neal Devine, and Rick Devine; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mary counted her blessings and often reflected on her good fortune of being perhaps the tiniest preemie to survive at Boston City Hospital.  She made good of that miracle by giving back to the world with fortitude and determination.  She inspired, supported, and, if need be, cajoled -often just with a look- those in her midst to do their best.  Mary minced no words, missed no opportunity to help, and quietly modeled her desire for a world of less "waste", "excess" and "nonsense".  She set the bar high with her selflessness, integrity, work ethic and devotion to her husband and extended family - a true matriarch.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Christine Parish Church, 1295 Main Street in Marshfield.  Burial to follow at Couch Cemetery Marshfield, on Union St. just south of Oak St.

Donations that would be appropriate in Mary's honor include: the Alzheimer's Association, Save the Children, MassPirg, Catholic Charities, and National Geographic.
