Obituary

Mary C. (Eichorn) Fay, 80, died at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Plymouth on Saturday, April 8, 2023, surrounded by her children. Daughter of the late Frederick and Lillian (Talbot) Eichorn, Mary was born on March 29, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts. She grew up in Dorchester with her brother Fred and sister Lillian.

Mary moved to Marshfield with her first husband, William Askin and their three children in 1967. The couple went on to have four more children, for a total of seven children. The couple divorced in 1980 and she married her second husband, Joseph Fay in 1989.

Mary graduated from Boston City Hospital School of Nursing in 1963 and spent the early part of her 40+ year career in geriatric nursing. The middle part of her career was focused on adolescent psych nursing at Westwood Lodge and Pembroke Hospital. A return to geriatric nursing at Braintree Manor capped off the latter part of her career. After retirement, she found new friends at the Marshfield Senior Center who shared her love of quilting. The ladies frequently enjoyed lunch at The Mug.

Mary loved gathering with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially since many had moved out of state. She also enjoyed going on cruises and tropical vacations with her husband, Joe. Throughout her lifetime Mary enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery and quilting. She could get lost for hours in a good fabric or yarn store. She always had several projects going at once, most recently including quilts and making doll clothes for her youngest granddaughter. During retirement she finally found the time to indulge in her love of reading, gardening and watching The Hallmark Channel.

Mary is predeceased by her daughter, Seana Lynn Askin, her ex-husband, William Askin, her husband Joseph Fay, her sister Lillian Eichorn, her son in-law, Robert DeHay, and her nephew, Brian Eichorn. She is survived by her brother, Frederick Eichorn and his wife Kathy of NH; her children, William Askin of CA, Kevin Askin and his wife Jamie of NV, Joanne (Askin) DeHay of TN, Donna (Askin) Ragusa and her husband, Michael of Hingham, Richard Askin and his wife, Debi of Kingston, and Suzanne (Askin) Morin and her husband Nicholas of Webster. Mary is also survived by her niece Kerry Dellalucca and her 3 children (Emily, Amy and James) of NH, 16 grandchildren, Joey, Richie, Aaron, Tanya, David, Miranda, Brian, Crystal, Jason, Alison, Joshua, Jonathan, Tyler, Cole, Nathan and Sabrina; and 6 great-grandchildren, Jonah, Devlin, Deacon, Jaedyn, Maddox, and Finley.
