Mary Ann was civic minded. She at one time ran for public office in the town of Kingston and won. While in office she campaigned for Congressman Gerry Studs and was responsible for a scholarship program that helped many individuals obtain their Master's Degree from Boston State, which is now UMass Boston.
Mary Ann and her husband Manny left many loved ones behind. Her daughter Renee White and husband Clifton and grandchildren Tycollo Graham and Nakishna Graham-Amado and great-grandchildren Elijah and Alaina; her daughter Leah Mendes and grandson Andre Mendes and his wife Yanire with three more great-grandchildren Camryn, Zara, and Zane; her son Manuel Fernandez; and her daughter Gwen Fernandez and granddaughter Devica.
