Mary P. Finneran, 84, of Marshfield, an educator and loving mother, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
A Boston native, she entered the world mere hours before St. Patrick's Day, and later became a distinguished graduate and class officer at Boston College. She used her sharp mind and love for learning, teaching children as a third-grade teacher in Boston, and later a substitute teacher in Marshfield. Her commitment to children included being a Cub Scout leader, and shuttling and cheering on her own 9 children at their many activities including softball, Irish dance, football, 4-H, and track.
Mary was a devout and actively involved Catholic, who taught CCD at St. Christine's Church.
Her bountiful fruits, flowers, and vegetables that fill her yard in Marshfield showcase her lifelong organic gardening skills, but her life's pride produce were her nine gorgeous children and her fifteen perfect grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband, John F. Finneran, and survived by her children: Mary Teresa, Kate, Ellen, John, Noreen, Eileen, Nancy, Carol, and Peter and grandchildren: Sophie, Rachel, Michael, Liam, Anna, Emma, Brigitte, Pete, Cara, Matilda, Eoin, Una, Aidan, Brendan, and Finn. She is also predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Catherine Short, her brother Joseph Short, and survived by her sister Sally Orcutt.
Her vivacious lust for life will be remembered fondly by her many nieces and nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends.
A wake will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, August 2, 2024 at St. Christine's Church, 1295 Main Street in Marshfield. Burial will be in the Couch Cemetery, Union Street in Marshfield.
