Mary Josephine (Schofield) Gordon of Marshfield passed away peacefully at home on the afternoon of August 7, 2026. She was 87 years old.

Born in South Boston, MA to Patrick and Josephine (Forbush) Schofield, Mary was the eldest of 7 children. She had an innate ability to nurture and comfort those around her, which led to a career in nursing. Upon honorable discharge as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Mary received her BSN from Boston College. Untold patients in Boston area hospitals, as well as in the United States Postal Service, benefitted from her compassionate care and dedication to their well being.

Mary shared a love of travel with her best friend and husband, Gordy, as well as with her sisters. She was an avid reader of murder mystery novels and enjoyed a wide range of shows on PBS. Her greatest pleasure, however, was simply spending time in the company of others. Mary had the rare ability to quietly listen, then offer simple kindness or pragmatic wisdom.

She was the first best friend and loving mother of Anne Marie Gordon and her fiancé, Shawn Tiernan of Plaistow, NH; Noreen D'Andrea and her husband Mark of Bourne, MA; Martin J. Gordon III and his partner Jennifer Parsons of Duxbury, MA; and Amy Gordon and her wife Paula Collins of Marshfield, MA. Mary was the devoted grandmother of Neil Budden, Jr and his wife Ashley, Andrew Budden and his wife, Cassandra, Eric Budden and his wife, Haley, and Mary Budden; Luke and Brooke D'Andrea; Taylor and Jacob Gordon; and James O’Neill. She was blessed with three great-grandchildren. Mary was the dear sister and sister-in-law of Joanie and Joseph Paulanthony of Cohasset, MA; Florence Gore of Milton, MA; Martin and Doris Schofield of Dedham, MA; Theresa Smith of Milton, MA; and the late Joseph Schofield and Brendan Schofield.

Her family takes comfort in trusting that with her passing this remarkable woman of profound faith is reunited with her beloved husband, Martin J. Gordon, Jr.
