Obituary

Mary C. (Dowling) Harris, of Duxbury, formerly of Braintree, passed away on April 19, 2017 at the age of 95. Beloved wife of the late Richard E. Harris, Mary is the loving mother of Claire Hamlen and her husband Herschel of Atlanta, Georgia, Christine Johnson and her husband Karl of Scituate, Jane Hicks and her husband Glenn of Duxbury, Stephen Harris of Holbrook, Kenneth Harris and his wife Susan of Boytnon Beach, Florida, and Paula Stagnone and her husband Richard of Holbrook. Dear grandmother to 11 grandchildren Julie Calabro, Grant Hamlen, Alyson Stadelmann, Justin Hicks, David Harris, Lauren Harris, Peter Harris, Thomas Harris, the late Daniel Harris, Meredith Stagnone , Alexander Stagnone and 12 great-grandchildren.  Mary was born in Boston to the late John and Anne (Lamb) Dowling and is predeceased by her five brothers Joseph, John, William, Thomas and James Dowling and her sister Helen Siitonen.

Mary was raised in North Quincy and graduated from North Quincy High School in 1940.  She married her husband Dick in 1952 and they raised their six children in Braintree enjoying many happy times with family, friends and wonderful neighbors. Once her children were grown Mary enjoyed volunteering at the Pembroke Library and the Sandwich Glass Museum.  Through the years, Mary and her husband loved to entertain, travel, read and most of all spend time with their children and grandchildren.  Over the past 10 years the arrival of her 12 great grandchildren provided Mary with immense joy and comfort as life became more challenging.  Mary's great sense of style, warm and gentle spirit, devotion to her faith and deep love of family is her legacy to all who loved her.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 24 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street in Duxbury. Burial will be in Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury.
