Mary T. (Connolly) Martin of Marshfield passed away in the early morning hours of November 11, 2021 at ,the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Francis X. Martin, she was the cherished mother of John Martin, Maryellen Craig and her husband Joseph, and Janice Bergeron and her husband Michael, all of Marshfield, and grandmother of Brian, David, Miranda, Renee, Nicole, and Danielle.
Mary was born in Boston to the late Patrick and Winfred (Burke) Connolly and was raised in Brighton. Her "essence" was instilled at a young age. In her High School yearbook, this is what was said about Mary: "Our beloved Class President. Ever ready to counsel and advise. Independent and influential. Appreciative sense of humor. Distinguished for her jive talk (and her bangs)". Not much changed since high school. Mary remained true to her character and traits throughout her life. Our family and friends will attest, she was the wisest woman we knew. She was old-time Irish – spiritual, hard-working, classy, practical, a great listener who doled out wise, no-nonsense advice (even when you didn't want it)!
If you visited Mary's home or were in her presence you knew she had a young attitude, was a little rambunctious, and loved to talk about politics and social issues. She was a pioneer before her time, having worked at the CIA in Washington, DC, where she provided new identities and aliases for field agents. She also worked in an Ad Agency and for Catholic Charities. She was a savvy businesswoman, which was rare during those times. She was and will always be a true inspiration to our family and will be sorely missed by all.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 in St. Christine Parish Church, 1295 Main Street in Marshfield. Burial will be private.
